Shiftine Day 2026 Part 2: The Powerful Shell Girls.

Life is more fun when the pink fuchsia-colored ^[note:1] special characters promised 5 years ago returned to the scene. So on this second announcement of Shiftine Day 2025, we'll introduce us as… the… Powerful Shell Girls? ^[note:2]

That said, we settled on copying the blue hairstyles to the new color and reaffirm the ($- )s as part of our official shell characters. Using  ($- ) instead of (>_ ) also changed the male shell's overall mood to be nicer and friendlier, too:

[note:2] It looks like Microsoft PowerShell and/or The Powerpuff Girls, but due to international copyright laws, it isn't.

Why ($- )s got the same treatment to (>_ )s?

In the past, these characters used to represent various operating systems, where blue was assigned to Windows, green to GNU/Linux, and fuchsia for the Mac.

By common sense, of course, the fuchsia should have got the latest Liquid Glass treatment, right? But well, we addressed these new styles back in February. Our closest transparent glass render is also not canonically accurate to Apple's standards, and it might be something we'd look like to look forward in the future.

And how about Memojis? Memojis are rendered in soft gradient meshes, but we embrace sharp edges and partially flat borders. In other words, they are distinctively incompatible to the art style being used to render our official shells.

And how about Apple's infamous squircle design within their UI? Well, these characters are circular by default, so it's challenging to make squircles as their identity without breaking consistency with other shell characters.

At this point, we're not lazy on experimenting different hairstyles. Because spoiler alert, we're also doing something for Team I/O for this Shiftine Day, too! The real reason behind this decision is simple:

We warmly welcome everyone regardless of platforms and operating systems. This is Interface in Polymorphism.

By having two colored variants of the same hairstyles, we can put these three shell types together in a distinct hierarchy:

1. The fuchsia ($- )s recommended for consumers' day-to-day usage requirements
2. The blue (>_ )s recommended for business/enterprise requirements
3. And the advanced green (#- )s whose are ready for digital adventures!
